Returns on low risk investments , such as money – market accounts, have been minimal due to record low interest rates. That has forced BNY Mellon to waive fees on certain investments because the returns are so low. BNY Mellon, which owns mutual fund manager Dreyfus, said fee waivers cut in to profits by about 3 cents per share during the quarter.
